Is destination management data-driven and technology based? The perspective of the authorities responsible for destination management in a geographically diverse destination area

n order to determine whether the entities responsible for destination management at the local level are keeping up with market trends, especially the requirements on implementing “smartness”, and whether there is a recognition of the need for their decision-making to be guided by real-time information and data, this research surveyed most of the local tourism authorities in the recognized tourism region of the Adriatic, which regularly records high numbers of tourist arrivals and overnight stays in the Republic of Croatia, a country where tourism is an extremely important component of GDP. To explore the topic, a survey was conducted by using the methods of Computer-Assisted Web Interviewing (CAWI) and Computer-Assisted Personal Interviews (CAPI), depending on the preferences of the respondents, primarily heads of destination management entities. The study of a specific topic related to tourism development decision-making, the application of smart technologies in the destination, and the collection of input from visitors to the destination included 73.53% of tourism management bodies (tourist boards of cities/municipalities) in the observed region and resulted in interesting findings. It is indicative that the application of technologies varies by sub-region and that decision-making is based on similar sources, regardless of the strategic importance of a particular decision and its long-term impact. Also, the fact that a large proportion of destination planning and development managers interviewed had no knowledge about the existence of strategic documents on sustainable development, and that only a very small proportion implement a strategy for the application of smart technologies and recognize the benefits of such an approach, is somewhat alarming. The limitations in this research are mostly caused by the determinants imposed by the funding source

The value and implementation path of smart media technology application in the cultural heritage of ethnic traditional sports

This study analyses the value of embedding smart media technology in the protection and inheritance of traditional Chinese national sports culture, explores the logical relationship between smart media technology and traditional sports culture inheritance, and proposes innovative development paths based on the basic principles and development trends in an attempt to provide useful references for the living inheritance and sustainable development of traditional Chinese national sports culture. The rational use of smart media technology can effectively drive the high-quality development of various fields. The application of smart media technology in the inheritance and development of traditional ethnic sports culture is expected to reflect the diversified values, based on which it is important to point out that the implementation path of the new smart media technology to accelerate the promotion of traditional ethnic sports culture is of great significance in practical development. This study uses the PDCA cycle theory to establish a research idea based on the main line of “value analysis-proposed path-path evaluation-continuous optimization”, whereby the smart media technology drives the innovation of the development situation, and pushes the dissemination of Chinese traditional national sports culture into the smart media era. It is found that the integration of the two helps to innovate the way of cultural inheritance, is conducive to better excavation and collation of the essence of excellent traditional sports culture, and can better promote diversified development. It is conducive to promoting the sustainable development of the traditional sports culture industry. It is conducive to the promotion of national cultural exchanges, exchanges, intermingling and the enhancement of national cohesion, and helps to effectively excavate and reasonably use the deep value of smart media technology; it should be based on the needs of development and innovative communication and development of smart sports culture mode. Enhancing Urban Waste Management: Development and Application of Smart Garbage Bin Technologies

With urbanization and population growth, the volume of waste generated is also increasing. Traditional waste management methods may become insufficiently efficient, necessitating more intelligent and sustainable solutions to meet this challenge. In traditional waste management systems, garbage trucks often collect waste according to a fixed schedule without considering the actual fill level of the garbage bins. This can lead to resource wastage and unnecessary carbon emissions. The research background of smart garbage bins is also closely related to environmental protection. By managing waste more effectively, reducing pollution to land and water sources is possible, contributing to achieving sustainable development goals. This study investigates the application of smart waste bin technology in urbanization, focusing on its potential in waste classification and environmental protection. The research encompasses three main stages: system design, prototype construction, and functional testing. In the system design phase, key components such as LED displays, ultrasonic sensors, and servo motors were selected based on functional requirements, and intelligent control was implemented using Arduino boards and the U8g2lib library. During the prototype construction phase, 3D printing and precise assembly were employed to ensure the effective layout of electronic components. The testing phase involved evaluating the performance of humidity sensors, ultrasonic sensors, and voice modules. The test indicates that the smart waste bins perform well in terms of sorting accuracy and ease of operation, but improvements are needed in real-time monitoring and user interaction. Overall, this study provides significant insights into the technological development of smart waste bins and their application in urban environments.

Leveraging Local Value in a Post-Smart Tourism Village to Encourage Sustainable Tourism

Post-Smart Tourism Destinations (PSTD) need a sense-of-place approach based on uniqueness and thematic differentiation to deliver authentic and valuable experiences. Information and communication technology (ICT), digital technology adoption, sustainable development, community empowerment and local wisdom, and destination uniqueness are keywords that will be further explored in the development of tourism villages in Kenderan as the most important tourism destination development at the village level. The development of smart tourism, proof of the disruption of digital technology in the tourism sector, has become the objective of almost every tourism destination in the world today, be it an urban or rural area. Since its initial emergence, the smart concept in tourism development has evolved. In the beginning, it focused on ICT and the adoption of digital technology. Along with the pressure of the global requirement to apply sustainable development, the focus of smart tourism later included sustainability in the application of smart technology, which made smart tourism development (STD) become smart and sustainable tourism development (SSTD). The post-smart tourism concept arose because many critics suggested that destinations tend to place too much focus on technology adoption and lack attention to local wisdom, inclusivity, and local indigenous aspects of destination development. Applied research implemented mixed methods in the form of qualitative research through expert judgment and quantitative research through structural equation modeling analysis. The results of this research show that creative events for the local aspects of a tourist village, digital competence, and sustainability practice are the building blocks for a post-smart tourism village, while digital competence and sustainable practice have a significant mediating effect of locality on post-smart tourism villages. To ensure a tourism village possesses sustainable competitive advantages, the village must explore and promote its locality aspects to differentiate itself as a tourist village by identifying its valuable, rare, inimitable, and non-substitutable tourism resources. The implication of this research is that to develop wise and distinctive smart tourism destinations, tourist villages should explore their local values and resources, embed them into their basic components and core resources of tourism, and co-create, distribute, deliver, and promote them to the global market through technology adoption and global sustainability value.

Augmented and Virtual Reality to support Corrective and Preventive Actions in maintenance: a framework proposal

Several technologies have been introduced with the Industry 4.0 paradigm to help business stakeholders become smart and more productive. This research work focuses on the application of smart and digital technologies within the maintenance department, providing a preliminary analysis to better understand the advantages and disadvantages that can impact maintenance stakeholders' performance. After figuring out what emerging technologies are most used by each stakeholder working in the maintenance field, a literature review was conducted to analyze how Augmented and Virtual Reality (AR/VR) can support maintenance stakeholders during maintenance interventions: the Corrective and Preventive Actions (ACT) process contained in the UNI EN 17007 standard, i.e., the reference for maintenance processes and associated indicators, was considered. The results obtained from the literature search led to the creation of a framework, which investigates the use of Augmented and Virtual reality within the ACT process.

Dinata Koi Farm is a Koi fish cultivation business that has been started since 2018. The Koi fish cultivation business is carried out starting from breeding, sorting, growing and marketing Koi fish. The demand for Koi fish orders by customers is not proportional to the amount of production produced. The problem is that many fish die due to poor water quality, thereby reducing the number of Koi fish produced for market. Koi fish are very sensitive to increases in temperature and pH levels of pond water. Dinata Koi Farm has a problem, namely that it cannot continuously monitor the temperature and pH levels of the water, so sometimes handling the pond water quality becomes slow and the Koi fish die. Based on the problems faced by partners, the service team helped develop smart fish farming technology that can monitor Koi pond water quality in real time and automatically handle it if there is an increase in the temperature and pH levels of the pond water. . The approach methods that will be used in this activity include individual approaches and training. The components evaluated in this activity are the application of smart fish farm technology and increasing partners' knowledge in the use of information technology, especially smart fish farms.

Towards energy efficiency: retrofitting existing office buildings using smart technologies

Buildings are considered one of the main causes of increasing CO2 emissions due to their excessive consumption of energy. The drive towards sustainability represents a challenge especially in existing buildings. The aim of the research is to support the built environment’s move onto a low-carbon path using smart technologies. This research highlights the role of smart building technologies in increasing energy savings of office buildings in Egypt, taking into consideration their incremental cost. Based upon data available on Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies (EDGE) website, association rule has been applied using Apriori Algorithm to identify the most used smart technologies in EDGE-certified office buildings, in addition to the different smart-orientated retrofitting scenarios that could be applied. Using EDGE software, energy assessment of an existing office building in Egypt was performed. This assessment acts as a “reference point” to quantify the impact of each smart technology and retrofitting scenario on the energy savings, incremental costs, and payback period. Limitations of the application of the different smart technologies impacted the selection process for the different scenarios. These limitations can be summarized in the suitability of application in the existing building’s systems, the availability and cost in the local market, and the potential of the building’s infrastructure adaptation to the proposed technologies. Based upon the above limitations, the best scenario was selected. Results showed that smart technologies have a great role in retrofitting of office buildings reaching more than 20% energy savings. In addition, the high initial cost of applying smart technologies could be covered within around 3 years of operation. This research could be used as a guide for improving energy performance of existing office buildings in Egypt using smart technologies.

Application of smart indoor hydroponic technology to support food security

Fish provides sufficient animal protein in the island region, particularly Nongsa in Batam City. However, the demand for minerals and vitamins from vegetables is not adequately met. The inefficient use of agricultural land is a major factor in the high vegetable prices in Batam City, reducing community interest in vegetable consumption. The activity aims to address this by introducing a smart indoor hydroponic system to meet vegetable needs. Targeting economically unproductive households, especially in Dasawisma Groups, the activity involves preparation, execution with socialization on the importance of consuming green vegetables and hydroponic tool training, and an evaluation of achievements. The applied technology is smart indoor hydroponic using the Internet of Things (IoT) for nutrient control. All stages of the activity have been successful, improving the group's understanding of green vegetables. Participants can independently operate the hydroponic tool with an automatic nutrient control system and cultivate various vegetables like water spinach and bok choy.

Design Smart Door Locks With Internet Of Things Based On Pin Security Features

Smart door lock systems have become an interesting topic of research in recent years due to the need for higher security when accessing rooms or buildings. This research aims to design and implement a smart door lock system that uses an Internet of Things (IoT)-based personal identification number (PIN) that can be controlled through the Telegram messaging platform.
 The system is designed so that users can give commands via Telegram messages to open or lock doors securely. Users can access the door without needing to be physically near it. In addition, the level of security is enhanced by allowing only authorized users to control the door via Telegram messages, as well as by implementing strong encryption and authentication mechanisms.
 In conclusion, this study succeeded in designing and implementing an IoT-based smart door lock system that can be controlled through the Telegram messaging platform using a personal identification number (PIN) as a security method. This system provides an efficient, secure, and practical solution for managing smart door access remotely. It is expected that this research can make a positive contribution to the development of smart door security technology and IoT applications at large

건설업 안전관리자 인식도 조사를 통한 스마트안전기술 활성화 방안

To prevent accidents in the construction industry, the government is using smart safety technologies such as ICT and IoT to increase efficiency by digitization and automating existing safety management methods. However, at the present time, where quantitative effectiveness has not been shown, such as overlapping policies divided between the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Ministry of Employment and Labor, and the reduction of accident rates due to the introduction of smart safety technology, a revitalization plan is needed through a survey of awareness of smart safety technology. In order to derive measures to revitalize smart safety technology in the construction industry from the government, developer, and construction company perspectives, survey items were determined through visits and brief interview targeting smart safety experts, construction company headquarters, and field workers. The general survey items and smart safety technology introduction and application groups were classified into groups, and a population was selected targeting safety managers at construction sites across the country, and a survey was conducted using a self-administered survey method. Research results: First, as a result of the survey on awareness, introduction status, and effectiveness of smart safety technology, the effectiveness of smart safety technology introduction and application was found to be high. Second, “Construction machinery and equipment access warning system” was the highest among the smart safety technologies currently operating and scheduled to be introduced in the future by groups that are currently introducing and operating smart safety technologies. Third, in terms of excellence in smart safety technology, “Easy to monitor work situation” was the highest, and excellent results were also found in groups that have not currently introduced smart safety technology at construction sites but are planning to introduce it in the future. Fourth, in terms of lack of effectiveness and ways to improve the effectiveness of smart safety technology, “introduction of technology that does not suit the construction site situation” was analyzed the most highly, and the same result was analyzed for groups that are currently not introducing smart safety technology to construction sites but are planning to introduce it in the future. It has been done. As a way to address the problems of introducing and applying smart safety technology and to prevent disasters, the government provides active education and promotion, produces and distributes smart safety technology guidelines that can be applied to each construction type, and provides clear guidelines so that owners and constructors can clearly understand them.
 Specific settlement method for the use of smart safety technology, development of customized smart safety technology for practical introduction by type of work, preemptive and quick solution of after-sales service problems for developers, management of smart safety technology at the construction company headquarters level and clarification of work scope for each person in charge and labor cost support, continuous It was concluded that measures such as improving managers' awareness through education are necessary.

RESEARCH ON URBAN E-WASTE MANAGEMENT IN CHINA BASED ON SMART TECHNOLOGIES

The improper management of e-waste poses a serious risk to the environment, human health and socio-economic sustainability due to the increasing volume of e-waste globally, its complexity and hazardous components. The management of e-waste is widely recognized as critical around the world, and China has begun to pay attention to e-waste management as well. The development of smart digital technologies provides a new option to realize efficient e-waste management. This study systematically reviews the application of smart digital technologies in e-waste management, which mainly involves the collection and recycling process of e-waste. On the basis, the research topic of advanced digital technologies used in e-waste management literature were unfolded and discussed. To explore the potential application of smart digital technologies in urban e-waste recycling management, this study investigates key digital technologies and equipment for promoting e-waste management in cities, establishing a smart recycling system and an intelligent logistics recycling system for e-waste, using City X in China as an example. In this study, we try to propose an alternative for City X based on intelligent digital technology, which mainly covers the collection process of e-waste, an intelligent logistics recycling system to track and optimize the logistics of e-waste recycling, and an intelligent inventory management that can realize the digital management of e-waste. Our findings could improve the performance of urban e-waste recycling and provide reference for the promotion of smart urban e-waste management system.

Instructional design of smart technology use in teacher digital educational environment

Introduction. According to the provisions mentioned in Digital Kazakhstan Programme and Digital Teacher national project, the teacher today is regarded not just as an active user of the novel digital and smart technologies, but as the creator and transmitter of the authors’ digital educational content. The modern teacher is supposed both to adapt to and perform the professional activity within the digital setting of the educational institution and be able to design his/her own digital educational environment to transfer the educational content and organise effective “educator-learner” educational interaction. This situation brings us to the issue of the necessity for the teacher to be aware and master the potential possibilities provided by the smart technologies in realisation of the educational activity in terms of online and mixed learning; this, in its turn, conditions the search for the solutions for the effective instructional design of smart technology application in a teacher digital educational environment.Aim. The present study aims to substantiate the instructional design of the implementation model of smart technologies when designing teacher personal digital educational environment (on the example of the authors’ Smart Assistant software as a means of optimising teacher activities and organising an online and mixed educational process).Methodology and research methods. The following categories of research methods were used to reach the goal set: 1) theoretical: cybernetics method, generalisation, analogy, abstraction, visualisation, modelling, and classification; 2) empirical: surveys and interviews techniques, as well as mathematical and statistical data analysis approaches.During the experimental part of the study an online questionnaire survey on “Implementation of smart technologies in designing a teacher personal digital educational environment in the conditions of distance learning at a university” was conducted among 201 teachers of Karaganda Buketov University (Republic of Kazakhstan) and Dokuz Eylul University (Turkey) from 12 December 2022 to 30 April 2023. The aim of the experiment was to identify problems with the adaptation and implementation of smart technologies in designing a digital educational environment. For this purpose, the respondents answered fifteen questions and made suggestions for improving the university digital educational environment.Results and scientific novelty. The article substantiates the design of smart technology implementation in a teacher digital educational environment as a means of optimising his/her activity in organising online and mixed learning process (on the example of the authors’ software Smart Assistant), and identifies the problems with the adaptation and implementation of professional activities in the context of a digital educational environment. The characteristic features of the problems of teachers’ adaptation in a digital educational environment and the difficulties of smart technologies implementation in their professional activity are defined.Practical significance. The Smart Assistant software product was developed as a means of optimising the teacher’s activities in organising an online and mixed educational process.

Machine learning framework for modeling flocculation kinetics using non-intrusive dynamic image analysis

The implementation of a machine learning (ML) model to improve both the effectiveness and sustainability of the water treatment system is a significant challenge in the water sector, with the optimization of flocculation processes being a major setback. The objective of this study was to develop a ML model for predicting flocs evolution of the flocculation process in water treatment. Furthermore, we have devised a framework for its potential adoption in large-scale water treatment. Therefore, the paper can be split into two parts. In the first one, flocculation evolution has been studied from an experimental setup, using a non-intrusive image acquisition method. Subsequently, the ML framework has been implemented. Batch assay data of two velocity gradients (Gf 20 and 60 s−1) and flocculation time of three hours were partitioned into five groups for flocs length range 0.27–3.5 mm and upscaled using linear method. Multilayer Perceptron (MLP) and Long-Short Term Memory (LSTM) models, and traditional time series model, Auto Regressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA) were explored to predict floc length evolution data. The experiments illustrate the kinetics of flocculation, where the initial stage is characterized by a rapid floc growth followed by a plateau during which floc length fluctuates within a narrow range. Results demonstrate that ML is sensitive to flocculation; however, the model should be selected with care. ARIMA model is not suitable for predicting number of flocs with negative test accuracy (R2). In contrast, MLP recorded R2 of 0.86–1.0 for training and 0.92–1.0 for testing, across Gf 20 s−1 and Gf 60 s−1. LSTM model has the best prediction R2 of 0.92–1.00 for Gf 20 s−1 and accurately predicts the number of flocs across all groups and Gfs. Our study has proven that the developed framework could be replicated for water treatment modeling and promotes the application of smart technology in water treatment.

Evaluation of Perceptions on the Benefits of Smart Technology Applications in the Tourism Industry: The Case of Sakarya

Günümüzün akıllı teknolojileri, müşterilerin genel ve özel anlamda yaşadıkları deneyimlerini zenginleştirip memnuniyetlerini arttırmaya yadımcı olmaktadırlar. Buna paralel olarak işletmeler de bu uygulamalar sayesinde sürdürülebilirlik ve rekabet üstünlüğü elde edebilmektedirler. Bu bakış açısıyla yola çıkarak araştırmanın amacı, turizm paydaşlarının akıllı teknolojileri kullanarak elde ettikleri yararlara yönelik algılarını ortaya koymak ve akıllı teknolojilerin uygulanmasında karşılaşılan potansiyel engellerin belirlenmesidir. Nicel yöntemin tercih edildiği bu araştırmanın verileri Sakarya’da faaliyet gösteren turizm paydaşlarına çevrimiçi anket uygulanarak elde edilmiştir. Elde edilen ve kullanılabilir nitelikteki 117 anket araştırmaya dâhil edilmiştir. Araştırma verileri doğrultusunda, turizm paydaşlarının akıllı teknolojilerin genel maliyetleri azaltacağı, müşteri memnuniyetini arttıracağı, iş süreçlerini hızlandıracağı, işletme imajını güçlendireceği ve rekabet avantajı sağlayacağı yönünde olumlu algılara sahip oldukları sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Ayrıca akıllı teknolojilerin uygulanmasındaki potansiyel engeller olarak ilk yatırım maliyetleri, yetkin personel eksikliği, yetersiz altyapı, güvenlik ve hizmet sektöründeki insan mecburiyeti gibi engellerin olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Araştırma sonuçları doğrultusunda kamu ve özel sektör ile araştırmacılara bazı öneriler sunularak literatüre önemli katkılar sağlayacağı düşünülmektedir.

Effect of Mishandling and Vending of Used Engine Oil on the Environment, Health and Urban Planning in Kaduna Metropolis: A Call to Action for a Paradigm Shift

This study examined the effect of mishandling and vending of used engine oil (UEO) on the environment, health, and urban planning. An evaluation of UEO handling, environmental and public health effects, spatial distribution of UEO vendors and contributing factors to choice of location, and the relationship between the vending location and the contributing factors to the choice of the location was provided. The research adopted multiple approaches including questionnaire administration, interview, observation, and application of a Global Positioning System, Geographic Information System, measuring tape, and a camera. An accidental/snowball sampling technique was viable for the study. Data collected were processed using Microsoft Excel. Descriptive and inferential statistical techniques were used. Results revealed the UEO was acquired from mechanic garages (41%) and stored in plastic containers (74%) until it was completely disposed of (91%). 52% had a hazy knowledge of the environmental effect of UEO, yet 45% rated the extent of its contamination as high. 59% were aware of its potential hazard which can get into the human body through ingestion but did not know it could get into the human body through contact with skin (74%) or breathing (61%). However, 84% wash their hands before a meal, with soap/water (67%), and change clothes after handling the used engine oil (69%). Most of the spots were located within 0-20 meters from the road (11), along the highways, occupying the metalled portion of the road, the road shoulders, setbacks, and walkways, blocking drainages and affecting the visual and aesthetic value of the environment. A larger proportion (40) revealed that visibility/accessibility guided their choice of location. Also, a low correlation coefficient of 0.32 was recorded. The study recommended the promotion of awareness programs, enforcement of environmental regulations, good hygiene practices, enforcement of standards and development regulations, and application of smart technology and big data.

Innovative Applications of AI, Machine Learning, and Smart Technologies in Non destructive Testing (NDT)

Several industries use non-destructive testing (NDT) methods to check the properties of parts and structures for flaws and oddities without affecting the part's stability or causing damage to the part being checked. It involves surveillance. Situation of the materials (Material State Awareness (MSA)) and the structural health monitoring (SHM). Using NDT procedures can help eliminate potential losses and risks associated with component failures while reducing both money and time by not sacrificing its reliability and upcoming utilization. On the other hand, machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) techniques are practical instruments that can aid in automated data collection and analysis, offering fresh insights and perhaps enhancing detection efficiency at a high cost quickly and easily. The present research provides an overview of modern AI-ML NDT algorithms and their applications of associated with smart technologies, such as digital twins and machine vision (MV).

PENERAPAN TEKNOLOGI CERDAS PENYIRAMAN TANAMAN HIDROPONIK BERBASIS MIKROKONTROLER DAN MULTISENSOR PADA PEMBUDIDAYA TANAMAN HIDROPONIK KABUPATEN MAJENE

Smart technology has provided many benefits for all human activities, including hydroponic farming systems. The consistent challenge in the process of cultivating plants using hydroponic systems is the monitoring of partner farmers in managing plant nutrition. Smart technology, utilizing microcontrollers and multisensors, can enhance hydroponic management, particularly concerning the control of nutrient availability, including saturation, water pH, and water availability in the hydroponic system. The purpose of this activity is to address partner-related issues regarding their lack of knowledge and skills in managing businesses aided by smart technology such as microcontrollers and multisensors and to improve the economic viability of partner businesses by producing nutritious and high-quality vegetables. The method used in this community engagement activity involves initial observation at the partner's business location, theoretical instruction to enhance partner knowledge, and finally, training in the creation and operation of smart technology involving microcontrollers and multisensors in the partner's hydroponic area. Questionnaires were distributed to assess the initial conditions before the training and to measure the success of the training after its completion. The initial observation showed a lack of knowledge about smart technology using microcontrollers and multisensors. Based on this, theoretical training was conducted to improve partner knowledge about smart technology using microcontrollers and multisensors. The theoretical content included 1) technology and innovation in hydroponic plant nutrition, 2) an introduction to microcontrollers and sensors in agriculture/horticulture technology, and 3) a demonstration of monitoring physical parameters and nutrient content of hydroponic plants using the Wokwi simulator. Subsequently, a simulation of microcontroller and multisensory device use was carried out, resulting in an enhancement of partner skills in using microcontrollers and multisensors. The improvement in partner knowledge and skills after participating in this training is evident from the questionnaire results, and partner satisfaction with the conducted training is also evident. The conclusion of this community engagement activity is that partners have gained knowledge and skills after participating in the training on the application of smart technology for microcontroller-based irrigation of hydroponic plants with multisensor systems in hydroponic plant cultivation.

The Expectations and Acceptability of a Smart Nursing Home Model Among Chinese Older Adults and Family Members: A Qualitative Study

This study aims to explore the expectations and acceptability of a smart nursing home model among Chinese older adults and their family members based on a scoping review that defines the concept of smart nursing homes. A qualitative case study was employed for this research. Semi-structured in-depth interviews and focus group discussions were conducted on WeChat. Participants were purposively sampled through snowball sampling in Hainan and Dalian, China. A total of 28 older adults aged 60-75 and six adult children were interviewed until data saturation was achieved, followed by a thematic analysis. The expectations of smart nursing homes include 1) quality of care supported by governments and societies; 2) smart technology applications; 3) the presence of a skilled healthcare professional team; 4) access and scope of basic medical services; and 5) integration of medical services. The acceptability of smart nursing homes included factors such as stakeholders' perceived efficaciousness, usability, and collateral damages of using smart technologies, and the coping process of adoption was influenced by factors such as age, economic status, health status, education, and openness to smart technologies among older adults. Chinese older adults and their family members hold a positive perception of the smart nursing home model. The qualitative evidence regarding their expectations and acceptability of smart nursing homes contributes valuable insights for a wide range of stakeholders involved in the planning and implementation of smart nursing homes.

Acceptance of Future Home Technologies and Services: Comparing Different Tasks, Scenarios and User Characteristics

While capabilities and applications of smart and intelligent home technologies continue to be developed, not much is known regarding how users of various characteristics and backgrounds feel about the emerging possibilities. In this study, a large-scale online survey was conducted with a diverse group of respondents to describe preferences and acceptance of potential future home technology system concepts addressing different tasks and objectives, as well as utilizing varied degrees of technology integration and automation. Results indicated a sense of uncertainty regarding future home technology, with slightly positive but overall neutral levels of interest, and mostly neutral intention to use various presented system concepts. Findings also illustrate gaps in future home technology acceptance between individuals of different attitudinal and behavioral characteristics, in addition to basic demographic traits, with implications for future design and distribution to address expectations stemming from past technology experiences and overall lifestyle.

Factors influencing smart facilities management – Stakeholder perspectives and the implication

Smart facilities management (FM), which embraces innovative solutions, integrates the operation of the city, the built environment and the people to achieve social, economic and environment sustainability. While previous studies investigated how to improve the smartness at the city and building levels, very few studies examined the application of smart technologies at the industry level. As FM industry connects the city and the buildings, its role in facilitating smart city development should be reinforced. This study depicts a smart FM ecosystem, on which a mixed method investigation into smart technologies application in the FM industry was conducted. The investigation is divided into two parts: in-depth interviews and an industry survey with FM professionals. Based on the findings from the interviews, a questionnaire was designed for survey implementation. The Kruskal–Wallis H test, AHP-based ranking, factor analysis and path analysis methods were used to analyse the survey results. A total of 14 factors were identified, along with their importance rankings, and were consolidated into three key factors. To illustrate the key factors and their relationships, an example of implementation of the EV-charging at Home Subsidy Scheme is provided.
